These three vase projects from Courtney are simple to make, totally school savvy, match any arrangement and are a fun project to engage with your kids.

Plus, the vases get an A+ for effort and creativity!

Show your school spirit at home and use these for your own floral arrangement — or share with the class. Whatever adds up!

Ruler Vase

Ruler Vase Project Example

Items needed for this project:

  • Inexpensive lucite cylinder vase
  • 12-inch wooden rulers (enough to cover the vase when positioned vertically from base of lid to lip)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Steps:

  1. Heat glue gun.
  2. When glue is ready, place zigzag strip of glue along back of one ruler.
  3. Place ruler with markings facing on vase, with one edge of ruler aligning with bottom of vase.
  4. Repeat with more rulers until vase is completely covered; if spacing is uneven for final ruler placement, position so its side edges rest on rulers at either side.

  • Lucite or glass vase
  • Jumbo crayons
  • Three-inch wide grosgrain ribbon, trimmed 9 inches longer than width of vase
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

  2. When glue is ready, place strip of glue along back of one crayon.
  3. Affix crayon to center of ribbon; length and width-wise.
  4. Repeat gluing and affixing crayons, being mindful of alternating crayon colors to create a rainbow pattern, until enough crayons are on ribbon to cover the outside of vase.
  5. Let dry and then tie ribbon on to vase with crayons on outside; secure with knot and trim edges.
